Anderson Epic Adventure 2017 FAQ: Where do you stay?
One of the first questions we typically get asked by people when we talk with them about our trip is, "where do you stay"? Being gone a whole month does require sleeping in various environments and I would like to think that we are fairly strategic or have a purpose in selecting where we sleep each night. During the upcoming month, we will sleep in 1 of 3 places: campground, hotel, friends/family.
I am not sure on the exact number but we will spend quite a bit of time in our tent staying in various KOA locations across the US. We like the KOA's for various reasons. One of the biggest reasons is the pool. Once we arrive at a location is nice for the kids to be able to jump in the pool and cool off or kill some time in the evenings. The fact that they have showers, are usually clean and often offer other activities for the kids to do are also perks. If we should arrive later than expected or we run into severe weather, the KOA's also have the option of upgrading to a cabin. This option has kept us out of some bad weather in the past and allows for quicker departure time in the morning due to less packing up.
Another option we use while on the road is a hotel. We do not use this one very often and is a fairly new option to our trips. We usually only get a hotel if we are going to be driving for a long period of time and arriving late to a location (by long we mean over 12 hours). This allows us a nice bed to sleep in and we only have to unpack our clothes.
The third option is staying with friends. It is always nice to meet up with those we have crossed paths with sometime in our lives. This year those locations will include places in Arkansas, Vermont, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. Staying with friends and family allows us to expense the comforts of home or of a home and breaks up the camping routine a bit.
