A Day At ESPN
We were able to spend about 24 hours with my cousin Taylor who is pursuing her career dreams and has landed in Bristol, Connecticut. Since we were in the area, stopping by for a visit was a must. When we arrived we went out for dinner. It had been awhile since we had some good pizza so off to a pizza place it was!
After a good night sleep it was off to visit her work place. I guess the title gives it a way. She does graphics at ESPN so a tour was definitely in order.
One of the first studios we were able to visit was the NFL studio. We were fortunate to visit when all the lights were on as they were prepping for an interview I believe. Very large studio with large screens that can be moved to create smaller or larger screens. The images of Le'veon Bell in the background is two screens pushed together. The big lighted square in the middle of the floor raises up if they want a higher platform for the desks. The desks and other props are stored just outside the set and get brought in during commercials.
The next two pics is the set where they do Sports Center. In the first pic they were interviewing Butch Jones, the football coach of the Tennessee Volunteers. When the pic was taken, they were on a commercial break. Shortly after the pic they went live again. The bottom pic is the desk that most of the Sport Centers we see on TV are shot.
Other sets we were able to visit was the set of Mike and Mike. It was fun to see all the bobble heads and other props they use during the show. We were also able to visit the Baseball Tonight set which is the set that was used much of the 80's and 90's as the Sport Center set before it was moved to its current location.
Not quite sure how we ended up by this locker but it is a locker I would love to have in my house. It is the place they store all the college football helmets that they pull out and use on the college football shows. As I was taking the first pic of the WI helmet through the locker, the tour guide went down, opened up the locker and brought it out. My cousin Taylor said they normally do not do that on the tour.
This video is a hallway dedicated to college football. At the end of the hallway is a touch screen with the major universities logos shown. Press the university of your choice and the schools fight song is played in the hallway. Press play and turn it up....On Wisconsin!
We wrapped up the visit with lunch from the cafe and a stop at the gift store. It was a fun filled day and a big shout out to Taylor who arranged our visit. It was great hearing about what she does and the shows that she has worked on.
