From the Beach to the City

July 7th a little after 9:15 pm

The past couple of days have been a little slower. Less time in the car and a little more time out and about. Yesterday we spent most of the day at the beach enjoying the sun and surf.

Topsail Hill Preserve State Park
We spent one night at Topsail and really enjoyed our time there. If you have kids and are in this area, we highly recommend it. They offer various classes for kids throughout the week. Kellen attended a class in the morning where they made some crafts and learned about the area. In the afternoon they had a ranger come by and talk about a sea turtle nest that was not too far off the beach. There are numerous trails, a pool, ponds to fish in and shuffle board! Throw
in a tram to take you the mile and half to white sand and surf and what more can you ask for!

A Little Detour
So you see, I have this thing with stadiums, universities etc. Last year on our trip we drove about 30 minutes our of our way to visit Duke University. Once on campus we drove through construction zones just to get a look at Cameron Indoor Stadium. Pretty sure if anyone would have seen us, we would have been escorted off campus real quick. Well, today as we were driving to Savannah, I noticed that we passed through Tallahassee, home to the Florida State Seminoles. Since the early 90's I have been a bit of a Nole fan so I could not pass up the opportunity. Another detour took us around the football stadium and through a bit of campus. Pretty sure we decided Kellen was going to go there so I could go to football games with him.

Savannah South KOA
After a short 6 hours in the car today we arrived at our campsite. A nice place to set up a tent close to a lake, watch the swans go by and.....keep an eye out for alligators. We were told they stay in the water and do not come up around the camp group as long as you don't feed them. Got it.

That's it for now, good night from Georgia!

Up Next....

  • A day in Savannah
  • 2.5 hours to Charleston for a couple nights
